Summary:
Description: I. "The Derby 1943." Crowds arrive by various means (horse-drawn carriage, bicycle, on foot) at Newmarket to watch the Classic, won by Straight Deal. Gordon Richard is third on Nasrullah in a close finish.
II. "His Majesty in North Africa." King George VI with Eisenhower in the desert, then inspecting Guards units. Makes a surprise visit to a rest camp on the Algerian coast and meets a female French Youth Organisation officer. Drives along a desert road lined on either side by cheering troops.
III. "Pantelleria - the surrender." Coverage of invasion operation preceded by view of a Sergeant Pilot (who had made a forced landing on the island of Lampedusa) shaking hands with Air Marshal Coningham. Troops come ashore on Pantelleria and drive through the rubble, the result of heavy bombardment from the sea and air. Many small groups of Italians carrying white flags come forward to surrender; commentary deduces from a few smiles that they now feel safer under the "Union Jack". Bulldozers clear ruins.
