Summary: During the final stage of their clearance operations in the Fôret de Brotonne, troops from the 49th (West Riding) Division discover massive quantities of abandoned equipment that the Germans had failed to ferry across the lower Seine.
Description: I. Two Humber armoured cars from the 49th Recce Regiment accompany a Universal carrier from the 4th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment and Sherman and Firefly tanks from the 144th RAC's 'B' squadron, each tank carrying an infantry section from the Lincolnshire 'D company, as the combined armour and infantry force advances into the Fôret de Brotonne.
II. Two British NCOs ride horses used as draught animals; surrounded by clothing, kit, discarded helmets and one or two corpses, abandoned horse-drawn waggons and farm carts (including one used by a vet) are found in orchards and copses. Horse-drawn and motorised transport destroyed by Allied bombing and artillery lie in roadside ditches and in a field by the Seine at la Neaville and in the river itself; one of the vehicles is a Somua-Kegresse half-track tractor.
