Summary: Navy film in which the components of a Royal Navy task force are examined.
Description: Onboard a commando carrier, possibly HMS Bulwark (R.08), Royal Marines board Wessex helicopters as the narrator explains their ability to deploy rapidly to any location at which they are needed. Onboard an assault ship, either HMS Fearless (L.10) or HMS Intrepid (L.11) Royal Marines board landing craft and are shown making beach landings. The air support available to the fleet is demonstrated by the aircraft carriers HMS Eagle (R.05) and HMS Ark Royal (R.09) which are shown operating Phantom, Buccaneer and Gannet aircraft. The Leander Class frigate HMS Galatea (F.18) and the County Class destroyer HMS London (D.16) illustrate the types of ship used as escort vessels and models of the Type 82 destroyer HMS Bristol (D.23), a Type 42 destroyer, Type 21 frigate and Invincible Class aircraft carrier are shown as the future ship projects under development at the time. Sea Cat and Sea Slug missiles are loaded and fired from Royal Navy warships, the importance of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary in supporting operations at sea is explained, Mine Counter-Measures Vessels are mentioned briefly and views of a Resolution Class ballistic missile submarine are followed by scenes of the submarine's interior as a Polaris missile launch is prepared. The launch itself is shown from both below and above water.
