  • Description: I. "Antwerp open." Port of Antwerp is now open and being used for unloading of Allied supplies, following the clearing of the Scheldt Estuary by minesweepers. II. "Princess launches HMS ?" Princess Elizabeth is flanked by Admiral Cunningham as she christens a new ship (HMS Vanguard). Name is not disclosed for security reasons. III. "Stand down." Home Guard parades were held on Sunday 3 December throughout the country to mark the disbandment of the force. Film shows the King flanked by family, taking the salute in Hyde Park as members parade past. In a broadcast speech he expresses both "his pride and heartfelt thanks" for what the Home Guard achieved. Celebration is held that evening in the Royal Albert Hall. George Robey and Vi Lorraine entertain the audience with songs then Tommy Trinder comes on stage, cracks a few topical jokes ("I paid 2/10/0d for the suit and 7 pounds for the coupons") and sings "Sweet Fanny Adam" to everyone's delight. Evening is compĂ©red by British Movietone commentator Leslie Mitchell (brief glimpse).
