Summary: Scenes in and around Flushing and Breskens on Walcheren island.
Description: I. In Flushing, a Dutchman surveys the ankle-deep flood waters lapping at his doorway; clutching buckets and wearing rolled-up trousers, civilians wade along a flooded pavement. From a first floor window, the cameraman surveys a sector of the town affected by the breaching of Walcheren's sea dykes by the RAF prior to the British amphibious assault.
II. Having successfully completed their part in the capture of Flushing, men of No 4 Commando march in platoons along the Esplanade and pass a German reinforced concrete bunker as they leave the town to re-join the main body of No 4 Special Service Brigade at Westkapelle; note the battered facades of the townhouses and hotels lining their route.
III. Filming from an LVT(2) Buffalo, the cameraman observes three similar amphibians (also crewed by the 11th RTR) steaming out of Breskens harbour, where LCAs used to ferry men and supplies to Flushing and refugees, wounded and prisoners back to Breskens can be seen moored together.
IV. In the Schelde Yard at Flushing, a 23,000-ton liner still on its slipway and the surrounding dockyard cranes used as snipers' nests are surveyed by the cameraman.
