Summary: An instructional film detailing the layout, deployment and operation of the Ground Radar Convoy, Type E, consisting of 33 vehicles which can be deployed in short and long term placements. Description: LAYOUT OF THE CONVOY.
A detailed plan of where each vehicle should deploy, including what conditions and issues each vehicle should consider when doing so. The Radar Head vehicles, Cable vehicles, Power vehicles, Ops vehicles, VHF Transmitter vehicles and VHF Receiver vehicles are all shown in details and their deployment illustrated, including distances required between each piece of equipment.
PREPARATION OF THE CONVOY.
Each vehicle's preparation process is summarised with much detailed footage from each unit being included. Focus is on the Radar Head vehicles, shown deploying a Type 13 Radar, reflectors and IFF aerial arrays before connecting cables and jacking the entire unit off the ground. A Type 15 Metric array is shown being deployed, with the differences in deployment between the Type 13 and 15 being addressed.
CABLING UP.
A convoy-wide wiring diagram is shown and explained, with the A, O, S, V and I Connectors being illustrated in their turn. Detailed diagrams of each type of cable used are included, as are the colour coding and terminals used for each variant, the drums on board the Cable vehicles being deployed, the diesel generator and wiring the Junction Boxes being activated.
FINAL ADJUSTMENTS.
Final adjustments to the aerial heads are explained, as is how to set up the 'Angle of Squint' as well as the Trace and Aerial Head alignment.
The film concludes with an aerial view of the entire convoy deployed in full, including their domestic site off to the side of the convoy.
