Summary:
Description: I. "Nearer Tokyo." Map shows the strategic importance of the Marshal Islands, then US marines clamber down ship nets into smaller craft in which they approach Kwajalein Atoll under cover of a naval barrage. Marines come ashore and start firing machine guns and a bazooka. This "first conquest of Japanese territory" includes the take-over of burnt out air-strips and causes heavy Japanese casualties, "8400 killed or captured against 368 Americans killed and missing."
II. "Air blow by night and day." Chiefs of Allied Expeditionary Air Forces are seen seated in conference at HQ: Air Marshal Sir Roderic Hill, Air Chief Marshal Sir Leigh Mallory, Major General Butler, Air Vice Marshal Wigglesworth, Brigadier General Strickland, Air Marshal Sir Arthur Coningham and General Brereton of the 9th USAF. RAF bombers attack ball-bearings factories at Schweinfurt after a USAF daylight raid. Large fires blaze in the town (static on aerial film). RAF Bostons and Mitchells supported by Spitfires pound the Pas de Calais, following Churchill's recent announcement that pilotless aircraft or rockets might be being installed there. This constant bombing is "the overture before the drama of the Second Front begins."
