- Summary: Edition of US-produced wartime newsreel, featuring a United States Navy fleet defending itself against suicidal Japanese kamikaze pilots, a homecoming parade in honour of General Eisenhower, and an address by President Truman urging the ratification of the United Nations Charter.
- Description: 'US Navy fights off Japanese suicide planes'; looking up at US Navy carrier aircraft in flight. Camera gun footage showing Japanese boats and shipping under fire. Carrier dive bombers in flight; tail markings (blue and white squares) suggest they are from USS Hornet. Attacking a Japanese airfield, apparently a base of kamikaze pilots. At sea; wide shot of an American aircraft carrier. A Grumman F6F Hellcat lands aboard (possibly aboard USS Wasp; white stripe on tail). A Hellcat makes a high-speed belly landing, skidding across the flight deck. A F4F Wildcat (marked Q14) runs off the deck and manages to stay airborne. A Hellcat lands. A Hellcat on deck; its horizontally striped tail indicates USS Randolph. Apparently safe, the aircraft is suddenly enveloped in flames (due to an exploding external fuel tank?). The pilot is helped away by a deckhand. A views of another burning plane on deck. The pilot, badly burned, is helped away. A Wildcat marked F5 fails to land and strikes an aircraft parked at the end of the flight deck, shearing off one of the parked aircraft's wings. The landing aircraft wings over and falls inverted into the sea. A diving aircraft, apparently a kamikaze. Wide shot aircraft carrier with anti-aircraft bursts overhead. Further shots of anti-aircraft fire and planes being shot down. The carrier USS Saratoga being struck by a kamikaze which approaches at low level. Fire aboard USS Saratoga. Firefighters at work. Camera gun footage; a Japanese fighter with flames streaming from its belly. An aircraft dives into the sea. View from carrier Bunker Hill of an aircraft being shot down. A kamikaze strikes Bunker Hill (an aircraft seen on deck, however, wears the markings of USS Yorktown). The light cruiser USS Wilkes-Barre comes alongside to assist with her hoses. Views of the stricken Bunker Hill. Men are rescued from the water. More shots of aircraft being shot down. 'Gen. Eisenhower acclaimed by home town'; Eisenhower disembarks from an aircraft at Kansas City airport and is met by her mother, brothers and other family. High view of the main street of Abilene, Kansas. View of Eisenhower's childhood home. Motorcade with Eisenhower waving and saluting to the crowd. A pageant depicting the history of Abilene and Eisenhower's life. A float passes carrying a miniature log cabin, and another a team of railroad navvies. Eisenhower's high school football team, and a depiction of his 1915 graduation from West Point. March past of flags. Eisenhower salutes. 'Truman urges world charter ratification'; at the University of Kansas in Kansas City President Truman mounts the stage in academic dress to receive an honorary degree. He addresses his audience on the enormity and importance of winning the war against Japan and of 'winning the peace'. He emphasises that the United States 'the greatest Republic that the sun has ever shone upon, must live with the world as a whole and not by itself. Standing ovation. Washington; Truman arrives to present the United Nations Charter to the Senate.
