Title:WRECKED BRITISH AND GERMAN TANKS IN THE RUINS OF LINGEVRES (PART 2) [Allocated Title]
Film Number:A70 52-5
Other titles:
Summary: Addition coverage of the damage in Lingevres incurred during 50th (Northumbrian) Division's struggle for the village with the 130th 'Panzerlehr' Division.
Description: The cameraman surveys wrecked and badly damaged buildings in the village, situated astride the Caen-St Lo road, which the 9th Battalion Durham Light Infantry captured on June 14th 1944. Two destroyed tanks, one a 'Panzerlehr' Panther Ausf A, the other a Sherman from 4/7th Dragoon Guards' 'A' Squadron, lie facing each other near the 1914-18 war memorial on the village green; a church damaged by British artillery dominates the setting. The cameraman examines a road sign pointing the way to neighbouring villages that has been shot off its pole. A 1st Hampshire Regiment 15-cwt CMP truck overtakes a ditched Panther Ausf A tank knocked out by the Dragoon Guards' 'A' Squadron as it tried to flee eastwards through Lingevres on the Caen-St Lo Road. The tank's salient features, notably its Zimmerit-covered frontal armour and the long barrel and double-baffled muzzle-brake of its 7.5cm L/70 gun, are examined.
