Other titles:UK-USA BILATERAL COMPATIBILITY TRIALS
Summary:Third of three parts, detailing 'phase three' of UK-USA bilateral compatibility trials, intended to establish the compatibility of equipment and techniques. 'Phase three' takes place in the spring of 1967, at RAF station Old Sarum, featuring Helicopter operations. From the US Army, various helicopters are involved, including the H-37 Mojave, the H-34 ‘Choctaw’ and the UH-1B Iroquois. From the British, the RAF Wessex Mk II, the Army Scout and the RAF Whirlwind Mk X all feature. Senior personnel involved in the trials are seen. Briefings are shown, before extended trials footage interrogating a wide range of equipment and procedures, including casualty evacuation. The CH-37, which is described as representative of a link in the chain of helicopter development, is seen. Commentary lauds the benefits and opportunities arising from such compatibility trials. Towards the end of the film, a paradrop trial includes one unsuccessful drop of supplies, which plummets to the ground, to the amusement of the spectators; culminating in good humoured ‘considerable international leg pulling’. The film ends on the message that results and recommendations will be taken forward and on the aspiration for a continued ‘spirit of cooperation’.
