Summary: Two sequences.
Description: From the south banks of the Seine opposite Duclair, 276th Field Company RE operates a ferry service; troops and vehicles belonging to the 1st Belgian Independent Brigade queue up to board a Class 9 close-support raft and a stormboat while French civilians step ashore from another craft returning from the opposite bank. The stormboat, with eighteen or so men on board, and the close-support raft, ferry a jeep and a Humber heavy utility staff car, are seen making the 300-yard crossing to Duclair against a strong current. Watching the proceedings with the RE officer in charge is Brigadier Manners-Smith from 1st Corps HQ: stormboats and a Class 5 close-support raft are seen moored nearby. The stormboat returns from the north bank with civilians and commandos from No. 4 SS Brigade on board. At the ferry point, German vehicles lie wrecked and abandoned; a sapper throws a German steel helmet found in a Marder III SPG down to a Frenchman standing nearby: two men examine the contents of the cargo and cab of a Citroën lorry. Belgian troops board stormboat bound for Duclair. The cameraman examines an upturned truck resting against a derelict Citroën lorry. At Doudeville, an effigy of Hitler hanging from a gallows burns in celebration of the town's liberation.
