Summary: Precautions for farmers in the event of nuclear attack.
Description: Diagrams show the effects of a nuclear blast. The film shows what precautions against fallout should be taken given that it would be unsafe to go outside for at least two days (safe areas are prepared for livestock, machinery covered etc). When the immediate effects have passed some areas may be too contaminated for safety for some time after; in other areas farm work can be continued provided that the farmer wears protective clothing. It is unsafe to let dairy cattle graze on contaminated land; non dairy animals may graze if necessary as the radiation would not accumulate in the meat. Buildings and animals should if necessary be washed to remove fallout particles. Covered crops (eg potatoes in a clamp) and fully grown crops (provided they are washed) should be safe to eat. The film includes brief shots of radiation monitoring work on foodstuffs. The farmer has a duty to protect his farm and continue producing since food would be very scarce in the event of a nuclear war.
