Summary: Second World War British Ministry of Information newsreel trailer, in support of the "Dig For Victory" campaign, advising people to plan their planting in order to have home grown vegetables in the winter.
Description: Static camera shots of a slightly surreal studio set where a gardener/diner plants out his spring sowing in his vegetable garden/dining table. Old Father Time then delivers his summer course of lettuces and other seasonal vegetables which the gardener/diner eats with enthusiasm. Old Father Time then asks the gardener/diner if he wishes to order his winter course now, to which the gardener/diner replies "...winter, never heard of it". Winter arrives and the gardener/diner has nothing in his garden to eat and starves to death. The commentary states "...in the winter table bare, he could not eat what was not there. The dreadful fate of this poor man, was due to lack of garden plan". Old Father Time then speaks directly to the audience, whilst holding a "Dig For Victory" leaflet, "...you can make sure or greens for next winter, if you plan your sowing now. This Ministry of Agriculture leaflet tells you how". The film ends with the title "Dig For Victory Leaflet No 1".
