Summary: A roving heavy mortar patrol harasses 2nd SS Panzer Korps' positions in retaliation for the effective German mortar bombardments British troops have had to endure in the Odon Valley.
Description: A three man patrol goes out to hunt down snipers on 71st Brigade's sector of the front near Le Haut du Bosq. A Churchill tank regiment is seen in harbour north of Cheux along the Caen - Fontenay-le-Pesnel road. Two 4.2-inch mortar detachments belonging to the 1st Battalion Manchester Regiment's 'D' Company carry out 'Nomad shoots' on German positions in and around Brettevillette for 71st Brigade. Equipped with Loyd Carriers as towing vehicles and trailers, in which their dismantled weapons and ammunition are carried, the teams are seen in action at two pre-selected sites just behind the front, firing quick salvoes of 20lb bombs and then moving off to a new location. Seen in the background at various points are a Firefly tank, a Crusader AA tank and several Stuart light tanks belonging to armoured units deployed on 53rd (Welsh) Division's front.
