Summary:
Description: I. "Home!" Hospital ship Newfoundland docks in a British port, bringing back from Italy POWs injured in the Western Desert. Wounded disembark and depart by train. At a home for convalescent servicemen, the inmates and their nurses group themselves for a formal photograph and sing cheerily. A happy looking medical orderly tells the camera how a shell knocked his arm off. Item ends with a rather rehearsed homecoming scene on the doorstep between son and mother.
II. "From Sfax to the Mountains". 8th Army comrades of the wounded men continue their triumphant advance. Crowds of French colonists and Arabs cheer as troops, led by a band of bagpipes, parade through liberated Sfax, later visited by Montgomery who meets local dignitaries. Montgomery inspects a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress aircraft, a gift presented to him by a US general who allegedly bet the 8th Army leader he would not reach Sfax by 15 April. Other scenes of the Allied push in Tunisia show small groups of Germans being "winkled out" of a mountainous region.
