Summary:
Description: I. "Zero Hour." Report on the invasion of Sicily which makes use of maps and a compilation of what appears to be stock-shot material of military activity (not necessarily in this theatre) to suggest the story. Eisenhower, Supreme Allied Commander and therefore responsible for the operation, declares during a visit to the Washington Club in 1942: "Our job over here is with your help and God's help to carry on the war to final victory." Scenes of military activity perhaps connected with the Sicilian campaign include daylight bombing "before the invasion", paratroops jumping, ships and landing craft at sea, a few soldiers coming ashore unopposed, Royal Navy ships shelling the coast and drums of water being unloaded (almost certainly filmed in North Africa). "Opening of invasion went according to plan, with Allied air/sea power safe-guarding the landing." Only positively identifiable film is of Montgomery during his visit to London in May. Report ends with montage of US, Canadian and British soldiers.
