Description: I. "Honouring the stars." Oscar film awards are presented to Katina Paxinou by Teresa Wright, Charles Coburn by Donald Crisp, Jack Warner by Jack Benny, Paul Lukas by George Murphy, and Jennifer Jones by Greer Garson at a ceremony in Hollywood.
II. "Saluting the soldier." CIGS Field Marshal Sir Alan Brooke opens London's "Salute the Soldier Week" with a speech in Trafalgar Square. Troops then march from the City past crowds lining the route to Buckingham Palace where the King, Queen and Princess Elizabeth watch the march-past.
III. "Nearing our greatest effort." Churchill visits a US paratroop base and speaks to the men ("we march with valiant allies who count on us as we count on them"). Item then gives detailed coverage of a practice drop from US 9th Army Air Force Dakotas, showing the men before, during and after the drop, when they receive their supplies. Camera is attached to a parachutist who descends filming himself and his comrades.
