Summary:
Description: I. "Italy - Alexander's contribution." British troops march through Rome, led by a band of bagpipes. Girls look to see what is under the kilts. Alexander and Clark review the troops, the former making a speech in which he describes the victory of his troops as a "magnificent success."
II. "Consolidating in Normandy." Men and supplies come ashore on the Normandy beaches, while advance landing fields are rapidly prepared by rollers, allowing planes to take off and shoot up enemy trucks and trains. Troops move through orchards in what is described as "only the beginning" of the operation and are greeted by the locals. Air Chief Marshal Tedder, Admiral Ramsay and Rear Admiral Vian come ashore to watch operations, while captured Germans wade out through the water for embarkation to camps in Britain. Captured German film shows Rommel together with von Rundstedt, then inspecting the coastal fortifications, later seen being bashed down by British troops (British film). Prominent visitors to Normandy include Eisenhower together with Marshal and Arnold, and Churchill with Brooke on the destroyer HMS Kelvin, which fires a token shot at the coast, then ashore with Smuts and Montgomery.
