Summary:
Description: I. "Occupation of Elba." Under the command of General de Lattre de Tassigny, French forces, including colonial troops, embark and set sail towards Elba escorted by French, British and US naval units. Artillery fire and boats forming a smokescreen provide the only visual material of this invasion operation.
II. "Another gadget - German controlled tank." Some US soldiers play disparagingly with a small remote controlled "tank", with a forward compartment capable of holding 60 to 100 lbs of TNT. A soldier sits inside the cable-controlled and electrically-driven vehicle which crawls around like a giant beetle.
III. "Cherbourg Peninsula secure." Final stages of the street fighting before the liberation of Cherbourg. US infantry in action in the Montebourg area, firing into houses and lobbing a grenade across a street. German POWs disembark in England and enter a camp, allegedly surprised by what they see, having believed Goebbels' extravagant claims about the devastation of the country. Back in France, Bostons bomb a steelworks near Caen. Nurses in the Queen Alexandra Imperial Nursing Service pose to be filmed. British troops move through village with mine detector.
