Description: I. "Shelter in Style." Civilians enter one of the new deep shelters in London to avoid "the doodlebug nuisance." Amenities include canteen, sick bay and doctor, good lighting, fans and a central control room. "Bloody fine!" confesses one of the shelterers who all sing "Roll out the barrel."
II. "The Princesses." Princess Margaret with her mother presents purses at the Princess Margaret Rose School in Windsor. At a joint Sea Rangers-Girl Guides camp, Princess Elizabeth sits at the helm of a rowing boat and dries up after supper while her sister, a Guide, prepares the meal. The Queen attends a camp fire sing-song, interrupted by "an alert."
III. "As the Nazis go back." Pope grants an audience to Allied troops telling them in English "With our hearty affection we bless you" and comparing the uncertainty of war with the certainty of those "close to God." "Italian patriot's" film shows the straggling departure of Germans from Rome, later entered by the 5th Army who return sniper fire. Discovery of German atrocity: graves of 320 civilians in catacombs. Retreating Kesselring fires on advancing Allies.
