Summary:
Description: I. "Mandalay Falls." No actual film of the entry of troops into Mandalay, but coverage of a village on the outskirts being pounded by artillery, view of General Rees at a forward position and film of Indian and British troops moving forward along a road. Rare sight of Japanese prisoners (who normally prefer suicide to capture) being led forward blindfolded. Ground film shows Hurricanes in the distance bombing Fort Dufferin, and the "unavoidable" shelling of a pagoda, allegedly used as an artillery observation post by the enemy.
II. "Manila freed." View of blazing Manila, objective of US troops seen crossing the countryside and receiving warm greetings from the locals. Local guerrillas, wearing loincloths and carrying rifles, walk by. In the city itself, houses blaze after being fired by the Japanese and locals salvage what they can of their belongings. "Collaborators" are marched away. View of MacArthur, said to be formally handing over power to President Osmena. No sign of any Japanese
