Description: I. "Bristol Freedom for Premier." Crowds line the route as Churchill drives through Bristol to receive the Freedom of the City. Here he makes a speech referring to the support he has received from his "loyal and capable" colleagues in the Cabinet. Later, as Chancellor of the university, he stands dressed in ceremonial robes after having conferred the honorary degree of Doctorate of Law on his colleagues Bevin and Alexander.
II. "Enthronement of the Archbishop of Canterbury." Dr Fisher becomes the new Archbishop at a ceremony in Canterbury Cathedral. Actual sound as he blesses the congregation. Also filmed posing formally with wife and six sons.
III. "Free." Allied POWs recently released from Stalag 11B by the 7th Armoured Division ("Desert Rats") cheer and wave at the camera. Graves of some of those who died. Another camp liberated by the Desert Rats is Stalag 357 where the Commandant and gaolers now become prisoners themselves. Two soldiers captured at Arnhem who later escaped speak to the camera. Officers liberated from Oflag 79 include RAF men and turbaned Indians. Brunswick commander Major General Karl Vieth after capture.
