Title:THE WARDEN...HIS DUTIES AND TRAINING [Main Title]
Film Number:HOY 63
Other titles:
Summary: A survey of the kind of training and preparations a civil defence warden will need for a nuclear emergency.
Description: The film takes the form of an illustrated lecture before some prospective wardens (both male and female). The lecturer stresses the importance of both training and initiative in becoming familiar with the warden's own area - a warden is seen noting types of buildings, what transport is available, what emergency shelters there may be, where the local police, doctor and district nurse are. In the event of an imminent emergency the warden must also compile a household register by checking who lives in each property, where their shelter is, whether they have a car etc. The lecturer surveys the training wardens receive (illustrated by footage of training and of staged nuclear emergencies) - first aid, fire fighting, rescue, use of radiation meters, a short hand code for reporting forms, briefing skills, dealing with fallout in rural areas, handling evacuees. The lecture concludes by stressing the vital importance of the warden as someone in whom the individual will entrust his life.
