Title:CORONATION CELEBRATIONS IN THE CANAL ZONE [Main Title]
Film Number:MIL 57
Other titles:
Summary: The official celebrations by the British forces in Egypt of the coronation of the Queen in 1953.
Description: The film is an amateur record ("You will not, therefore, see a film of high professional standards"). The commentary, at the beginning and end, mentions the background of uneasy politics in Egypt (illustrated by film of a garrison gate, where a notice warns of the dangers awaiting unaccompanied females) as an additional reason for self-congratulation on the achievement of "suitable" celebrations. Practically all the film consists of coverage of religious services, parades and reviews at the various bases (with shots of various commanding officers, including Lieutenant General Festing, GOC Egypt) and some quite good film of an RAF display, including aerobatics and a mock attack.
