Summary: Fiercely nationalistic documentary about Poland sketching its history, war experience and Soviet occupation.
Description: The film traces, through animated sequences, the history of Poland from the tenth century, through the stages of the unification of Poland and the golden age 1500-1700, the disappearance of Poland in the nineteenth century and its re-appearance in the twentieth century. There are shots from the war, including shots from Bryan's own documentary SIEGE and stock shots from the Warsaw Ghetto. The second part of the film analyses post-war Poland from the anti-Soviet viewpoint stressing both Poland's historic links with the West and also the extensive survival of the Catholic faith under an atheistic regime. There are many shots of farms, factories, homes, schools and of Warsaw university where the intellectual elite who have had a tradition of non-conformity in Poland are being trained. The film ends by posing the question, will this new elite re-assert its traditional links with the West or continue to serve Russia?
