Summary: The construction and functions of Naval Motor Launches.
Description: Film opens with commentary stressing the importance of such vessels to the holding of the Atlantic. Brief scene in design room - then a good sequence on construction which, because of a policy of central mass production of standardised prefabricated parts, can be carried out at small shipyards all round coast without special machinery or skill - only the installation of engines needs outside help. Sequence includes film of production of parts, storage of accessories (ventilators, lights) and launching of ML 232 at James Silver's yard, Rosneath, by the Chief WREN Officer in Scotland. Sailors are shown learning about the engines in a school for crews - a launch is shown on acceptance trial. Then follows a (stock shot compilation) 'action' sequence, in which a flotilla on patrol successfully take on aircraft (with Holman Projector, Lewis guns etc) and a U-boat (depth charges, rolled overboard by hand). As this patrol returns another leaves port to take over.
