Summary: The life of trawlermen in wartime, the normal discomforts and dangers of the work increased both by enemy action and by the loss of good ships and good men to the Navy.
Description: The film is a record of one trip (edited, to provide a 'story' from part-way into one voyage through turnaround to putting to sea again) on board a trawler which, closing titles say, was later under a new crew lost with all hands. Commentary and conversation (at meals, or over a jammed Lewis gun etc) fills in background information and provides links for shots of fishermen's families at home (wives drawing pay etc). Sequence of events: Trawler fishing in a poor area, a bad catch - moves South - 'Hauling', clearing and packing a better catch (Reel 2) Fishing at night - returning to port - crew members, off duty, captain reporting to Port Office (warned off minefields etc) - crew return to boat, which puts to sea again.
