Summary: 56th Brigade successfully withstands fierce German counter-attacks on the village of Rijkevorsel.
Description: Three infantryman serving with the 2nd Battalion Essex Regiment's 'A' company in position at the edge of a tree- lined road in the village open fire on German positions (not apparent here) with Lee-Enfield rifles and a sten-gun as they and the Sherbrooke Fusiliers Regiment Sherman seen in the background advance northwards (?) out of Rijkevorsel. Detachments from the Essex Regiments anti- tank platoon remain immobile after coming a mortar bombardment in the village's main square overlooked by the imposing church at its centre (now in use as an OP): one of the universal carriers is seen on fire while its six- pounder gun lies abandoned several yards away. An infantryman (an anti-tank gunner?) cautiously pokes his head round a street corner to view the scene. German infantryman killed during 719th Infantry Division's unsuccessful counter-attack the previous day lie before the Essex Regiment's 'A' company's positions awaiting burial. Filming from inside a house, the cameraman briefly observes an infantryman walking through a garden and leaving by a garden gate.
