Summary: The 6th Battalion Royal Welch Fusiliers occupied a sector of 160th Brigade's front on the "Island" at Elst.
Description: Bivouaced in an orchard, men serving with the RWFs 'C' company demonstrate the easy way to clean the barrel of a Bren light machine-gun. A Fusilier plays 'Patience' and then joins his comrades in cleaning a PIAT and PIAT bombs; a No 4 rifle and parts of a dismantled Bren gun receive similar treatment. Members of the company are seen smoking cigarettes, writing letters home, relaxing and reading inside a tent. A Bren gun detachment is seen on the alert in a narrow slit-trench. Major Grindley, 'C' company's commander, holds an 'O' group with three of his platoon sergeants. A Fusilier leans against a tree (next to which a universal carrier is parked) while reading a book. Other members of the company are seen in a relaxed mood.
