Summary: Supported by armour from the 34th Tank Brigade, 56th Brigade captures the village of Nispen a mile north of the Dutch-Belgian border during 49th (West Riding) Division's drive on Roosendaal.
Description: An infantry section from the 2nd Battalion Essex Regiment's 'D' company digs-in in a field between Esschen and Nispen near the Antwerp-Roosendaal railway. Shells or mortar bombs burst a short distance from 'D' company's positions; a cottage where German opposition was encountered burns. A troop of Churchill tanks from the 9th Royal Tank Regiment's 'B' squadron move up from the railway to support the 2nd Battalion South Welch Borderers in action in Nispen. Holding a white rag in his hands as a token of surrender, a prisoner from the 85th Wehrmacht Infantry Division is led away as Infantrymen from 'D' company march into the western outskirts of Nispen past the smoking rubble of a gutted cottage. The cameraman examines an abandoned 7.5cm PAK 40 anti-tank gun.
