Description: On a damp, misty morning, infantrymen from the 9th Battalion the Cameronians, accompanied by detachments from their own anti- tank platoon and transport echelon, the 1st Battalion Middlesex Regiment's 'B' Company, M10 Achilles self-propelled guns from the 91st Anti-Tank Regiment Royal Artillery and Churchill tanks from the 7th Royal Tank Regiment, file through sodden wheatfields to Le Mesnil-Patry (?) and advance in extended order towards Le Haut du Bosq, coming under sporadic sniper fire as they do so. The first Scottish casualties receive first-aid from Royal Army Medical Corps personnel. Young prisoners - some with injuries - from the 12th SS Panzer Division Hitlerjugend and more Cameronian casualties trickle back into the Scottish lines. Cromwells belonging to the 11th Armoured Division's Tactical HQ troop and a Sherman OP tank from the 151st Field Regiment RA move up towards the front. A section Bren gunner takes up position in a slit- trench dug by one of his comrades in le Haut du Bosq (?). The 2nd Battalion Gordon Highlanders forms up to launch 227th Brigade's advance beyond Cheux. A 278th Field Company Royal Engineers sapper produces a German 3-kilogram magnetic hollow-charge mine; another engineer probes a roadside verge in Le Mesnil-Patry for mines.
