Summary:
Description: Two Vickers medium machine-gun detachments belonging to one of the 8th Battalion Middlesex Regiment's three machine gun companies are seen in action laying down a barrage on German positions beyond ground won by the 43rd (Wessex) Division on the previous day from covered dugouts (sangars) near Gilrath. The cameraman focuses on ammunition belts being continuously fed into the breeches of both the guns and piling up around each position with the expended cartridges; the condenser boxes are seen steaming away as the water in the cooling jackets reaches boiling point.
