Summary: Apart from the presence of Allied military personnel and the ever-present threat of V-weapon attack, Antwerp retains a peace-time atmosphere.
Description: The cameraman studies the 470 foot-tall Gothic spire of the Cathedral of Notre Dame and the statue of Brabo 'throwing the hand' ("Hand Werpen") in the old city in the background can be seen the ornate facades of the Hotel de Ville and the Guild Houses (of which one is surmounted by the statue of an angel) facing onto the Grote Markt. In the more modern thoroughfares of Antwerp, electric trams and a few civilian cars compete with British and Canadian military traffic for road space while British and Canadian army and airforce personnel mingle with the inhabitants of the city strolling along the pavements.
