Title:SCENES IN ANTWERP, BELGIUM [Allocated Title]
Film Number:A70 192-6
Other titles:
Summary: Scenes in Antwerp, headquarters city of the 1st Canadian Army.
Description: Sappers serving with a Royal Canadian Engineers unit complete two Bailey Class 40 bridges over the entrance to the railway marshalling yards at Antwerp's Dock station. Filming from one of the Baileys, the cameraman observes traffic using the Viaduc Rue Ellerman. In Pelikaanstraat near the city's Zoological Gardens, sombrely-dressed civilians go about their daily business while a roadworker removes dirt etc from the pave street surface. Electrified tram cars are seen operating their normal passenger service both in Pelikaanstraat and the Place de la Victoire; note the relative absence of a civilian motor transport (compared with the large number of military vehicles in the streets), the numerous civilian cyclists and the presence of British and Canadian servicemen.
