Summary: 84th US Infantry Division takes possession of Geilenkirchen during Operation "Clipper".
Description: GIs are seen in the main thoroughfare at the centre of the town, which is lined by buildings in various states of ruin and decrepitude, after its capture by 333rd US Infantry Regiment the previous day. A US officer stands in the window opening of one such ruin while searching for booby-traps as GIs ride past in a jeep (with a Browning .50 calibre machine-gun mounting) and trailer. Four more jeep-loads of US troops, including medical corpsmen, motor along a partly-cleared street; note the Browning .30 calibre and .50 calibre machine-guns on two of the jeeps and the upright steel anti-tripwire rods mounted on the front of all the vehicles seen here. GI riflemen escort prisoners from 183rd Volksgrenadier Division to a battalion HQ for interrogation; an injured POW leans on one of his younger comrades for support. GIs in jeeps motor through Geilenkirchen's main thoroughfare.
