Summary:
Description: Fallschirmjäger POWs head southwards out of Hechtel as infantrymen from the 3rd Battalion Monmouth Regiment file into the crossroads village; POWs carry a wounded British officer to the rear (where he receives emergency treatment by the roadside) and are then searched for concealed weapons etc. An old woman pushing a pram and a younger woman, who greets the first British soldier she meets, reach safety; Fallschirmjäger POWs march into captivity with their hands raised. A bren-gun team covers the right flank while, on the left, an M10 Achilles troop from the 21st or 75th Anti-Tank Regiment RA circle an adjacent field before firing towards the crossroads. A German casualty is carried to a roadside RAP where his wounds are treated. A No 18 wirelessman (FOO?) watches a Sherman troop from the 3rd RTR's 'B' squadron follow the M10s; a German corpse lies in the foreground. Riflemen search abandoned German slit-trenches. At the cross-roads, Fallschirmjäger and Sturmgeschütz/Panzerjäger troops are led away past another dead German; universal carriers from the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards (?) quit the village - note the German direction ("Brussels, Düsseldorf" etc) and unit ("Stamp, Steineck") signs. Infantrymen examine a Marder III SPG knocked out by PIAT bombs; a German stores dump is seen ablaze.
