Summary: After fierce fighting for the village, Tilly-sur-Seulles is abandoned by its German defenders who have infested the place with anti-personnel and anti-vehicle devices.
Description: Troops serving with the 2nd Battalion Essex Regiment, a 56th Brigade unit, take up positions in the ruins of the village. At the crossroads in the centre of Tilly-sur-Seulles, sappers from 505th Field Company RE probe for German mines and booby traps near a wrecked Universal carrier which was destroyed by such weapons. An anti-vehicle mine is uncovered by sappers using mine detectors and is rendered harmless. An RE unrolls white tape to indicate a 'cleared' lane through the village. An Austin K5 3-ton lorry from the RE unit is the first vehicle to drive through Tilly after the completion of mine clearance.
