Title:29TH ARMOURED BRIGADE IN ACTION IN THE ODON VALLEY [Allocated Title]
Film Number:A70 63-4
Other titles:MEDIUM ARTILLERY IN ACTION [Allocated Title]
Summary:
Description: I. Elements of the 3rd Royal Tank Regiment and the 8th Battalion the Rifle Brigade's 'G' Company are seen in position on the slopes of Hill 112. The RTR's Sherman and Firefly tanks remain hull down behind the crest of the hill. Artillery airbursts hang over Hill 112 above the tanks and half-tracks from the two 29th Armoured Brigade units and three-ton lorries from their supply echelons engaged in bringing up petrol, ammunition and food.
II. Empty bagged propellant charge cases lie scattered about a gun emplacement as the 5.5-inch gun which once occupied it is towed away by an AEC Matador tractor from the 68th Medium Regiment RA's 234 Battery. Four 5.5-inch guns are towed from Thaon to a new firing position near Secqueville-en-Bessin (?). An RA officer in charge of one of 234 Battery's two troops (?) lines up the new gun site with its intended target with the aid of a compass. Gunners unload 100 lb shells and crates containing bagged charges from their Matador tractor and set the gun sights. The 5.5-inch gun is dragged round onto its target bearing and is made ready for firing.
