Film Number:A70 82-11
Other titles:
Summary: Refugees arrive at Bayeux.
Description: Refugees from the much-battered city of Caen are seen arriving at a refugee centre established in an ex-seminary near Bayeux Cathedral after their evacuation from their homes the previous evening, a measure prompted by the renewal of Caen's ordeal, this time at the hands of German artillery and mortars sited in its south eastern suburbs on the east bank of the Orne. Civilians of all ages, clutching bundles containing those household items they could take with them, take stock of their situation as Army lorries arrive with more evacuees together with their inseparable bicycles. Two refugees, both with bandaged head wounds, are seen eating bowls of soup.
