Summary:
Description: Armour and motorised infantry belonging to units serving with the Guards Armoured Division (possibly the 2nd and 1st Battalions the Grenadier Guards) pound the approach roads to the Orne river crossings at Bénouville into a fine choking dust. A flag of dust follows Sherman tanks as they cross the Canal de Caen over "Tower I" bridge, one of several Class 40 Bailey pontoon bridges built by Royal Engineers to link the Orne bridgehead to the rest of the British sector of the Normandy beach-head. A French farmer riding in a donkey cart is seen briefly as the armour trundles over the bridge; also visible is a canal barge lying grounded in the foreground due to the suspension of canal traffic.
