Summary: 104th Fire Fighting Company operates in Caen with the cooperation of civilian fire-watchers.
Description: A fire breaks out in an orchard on the outskirts of Caen. The cameraman surveys the twin spires of the church of St. Etienne (Abbaye aux Hommes) where fire-watchers are stationed. The telephonist at the headquarters of the company's 60th Fire Brigade is notified of the location of the blaze which the RSM pin-points on a map showing Caen and its suburbs. On observing the fire, an elderly civilian firewatcher high up in one of the spires in the Abbaye aux Hommes uses a telephone to inform the Army Fire Service, whose firemen are seen tackling a blaze in a garage with water hoses. Afterwards, the army firemen return to their Bedford QL fire tender to smoke cigarettes.
