Summary: Two-part film highlighting the dangers of handling and transporting radioactive material and nuclear weapons, and procedures for dealing with fires involving them.
Description: The film opens with footage of H-bomb tests. A lecturer outlines how a nuclear weapon works and there is a demonstration of the sort of explosion and fire that would result from the worst possible accident involving a nuclear weapon - ie a conventional explosion spreading radioactive material over a fairly large area. The warning symbols in use by the armed forces to indicate the presence of different types of nuclear and radioactive hazard are shown. Demonstrations are given of how to cordon off and monitor the area around a crashed aircraft carrying nuclear material and of how to retrieve the material. A staged fire fighting demonstration on parts and weapons from a crashed and broken up bomber is given. Decontamination procedures are mentioned.
