Summary:
Description: A gunner serving with the 79th (Scottish Horse) Medium Regiment RA sets up a 'Tannoy' loudspeaker near his gun position, linking it to the battery command post. Here an officer receives target locations from an OP over a field-telephone, another gives firing orders down a 'Tannoy' microphone and the battery commander (?) plots target ranges on a map. A 5.5 inch gun team goes into action, firing their gun at extreme range. a 5/7th Gordon Highlanders rifle company files into Lisieux. Much of the town has been heavily bombed. On its eastern outskirts stands the Basilica of St Therese where German opposition is apparently centred. A platoon commander keeps in touch with his company headquarters over a No. 18 radio. A Bren gunner is given a glass of cider by a French woman while he is lying down aiming his gun at the Basilica. The platoon commander radios back while observing German positions. A 1st Royal Tank Regiment 'C' squadron Cromwell fires its Besa machine-gun. A pre-war route sign stands intact among debris. A despatch rider drives along a bombed-out street. Outside Lisieux, German prisoners are escorted past dead cattle.
