Summary:
Description: Infantrymen from one of the 5/7th Battalion Gordon Highlanders rifle companies file along the N13 highway into Lisieux in the early afternoon of August 22nd. Small parties of men probe the ruins near the centre of the town for any remaining snipers; others survey the extent of the damage caused by an RAF bombing raid. The camera pans from three 144th RAC 'C' squadron Shermans parked in a debris-littered street to a part-demolished bridge (?) spanning the Touques river. The Gordons take up positions among the damaged houses and heaps of rubble facing the Basilica of St Therese on the eastern outskirts of Lisieux. A Cromwell tank from the 1st Royal Tank Regiment's 'C' squadron turns its coaxial Besa machine-gun onto German positions harassing the 5/7th Gordons. A 1st Rifle Brigade (?) rifleman playfully places a white rose in the hair of a coy young French girl while his unit waits to enter the western outskirts of Lisieux.
