Title:VEHICLES AND GUNS NEAR THE SEINE CROSSINGS IN BAD WEATHER [Allocated Title]

Summary: Pouring rain exerts a brake on 30th Corps' advance from its bridge-head on the north bank of the Seine.
Description: Lorries and trucks pick their way along the muddy and pot- holed road leading from the Seine crossings into Vernonnet while pioneers work in the pouring rain to keep the road open. Several large and cumbersome 5.5 inch guns from the 64th (London) Medium Regiment RA and their 'Matador' tractors thread their way through the cramped streets of Vernonnet. Beyond the village three-ton lorries from the 8th Battalion the Rifle Brigade slither along a wet and slippery road while two military policemen help push a motor-cycle despatch rider out of the mud. Signallers brave the rain to repair telephone wires while more of 11th Armoured Division transport churns its way through the mire and, in one particular instance, has to be pulled clear.
