Film Number:A70 143-3
Other titles:
Summary: The 8th Armoured Brigade liberates Gisors as it advances with 30th Corps from the Seine towards the Somme.
Description: In spite of the rain, the inhabitants of Gisors line their main street to greet the crews of Daimler scout cars and Daimler armoured cars (2nd Household Cavalry Regiment's 'A' or 'D' squadron), Sherman gun tanks (4/7th Dragoon Guards) and Sherman Crab flail tanks (Westminster Dragoons' 'B' squadron) as they dash through the town; note the bunting stretched across the street. Two women collaborators rounded up by the local FFI are paraded through the town followed by jeering and cat-calling youths. Several Sisters of Mercy are seen among the citizens lining the route as British troops in M15 half-tracks and a 5th AGRA AEC Matador tractor with a 5.5 inch gun in tow pass by; one of the girls seen here wears a skirt patterned with "Stars and Stripes" in anticipation of the arrival of US troops.
