Summary:
Description: An advance party of British Embassy staff, which includes the First Secretary to the Embassy, Mr Holman, arrives at the embassy to take official possession and is met by M Iselin, Chief Officer of Foreign Affairs at the Swiss Embassy, which had taken charge of the premises during the German occupation, and by embassy servants who were interned during the same period. A welcoming party consisting of the British military and embassy staffs in Paris and senior French government officials await the arrival of the newly-accredited ambassador, Alfred Duff Cooper and Lady Diana, his wife, at Le Bourget airport. An RAF Mustang fighter squadron heralds their arrival in a Douglas Dakota. After leaving Le Bourget, the ambassadorial party is driven to the Arc de Triomphe, where Duff Cooper places a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, before then being taken to the British Embassy where the new ambassador and his wife are welcomed by French removal workers taking away furniture stored on the premises by the Swiss.
