In this part, we are shown how man developed the instinct of creatures to formulate methods of homing and to determine his latitude and longitude, using dead reckoning. Following Faraday's discovery of electro-magnetic induction came the replacement of the compass by the gyroscope and, more recently, the development of inertial navigation and refinements in astronavigation.
