Summary: Army Instructional film intended for officer cadets. The film follows a platoon of soldiers as they progress through training and into a front-line regiment. During their service they are commanded by various different officers, of varying effectiveness and ability. Of these officers, some demonstrate such classic mistakes as over-familiarity, lack of concern for men's welfare and failure to set a proper example. Others, particularly the last and most effective platoon officer, display more desirable qualities, such as enthusiasm, initiative and a tendency to place the men's welfare above his own. The positive effect of this approach on unit cohesion and morale is made clear as the platoon completes its training and participates in the D-Day landings.
