Summary: Film on the Hawker Siddeley Harrier GR1 aircraft. The film begins with scenes of the 1969 Daily Mail trans-Atlantic air race, during which a Harrier set a new speed record between London and New York. A Harrier is shown landing at St Pancras station in London, and another refuelling over the Atlantic from a Victor tanker aircraft before arriving in New York. Following the race the aircraft made a demonstration tour of the United States, including a visit to Washington DC and to the US Navy's command and communication ship USS La Salle (AGF.3). Harriers are also shown taking off from and landing on the Royal Navy aircraft carrier HMS Eagle (R.05), commando carrier HMS Bulwark (R.08) the Tiger Class cruiser HMS Blake (C.99), and the Argentinean Navy aircraft carrier 25 de Mayo as she sailed from Rotterdam to Argentina following her purchase from the Royal Netherlands Navy. The film ends with scenes of Harriers undergoing tropical trials in Sicily, cold weather trials in Canada and carrying out attacks on ground targets using rockets, bombs and cannon.
